From the Cordova High School Class of 1973, Winlock was an early standout among female athletes at the dawning of Title IX. She won a full ride track scholarship to California State Hayward (now East Bay) where she was a two-time All American in the long jump and 400 meter hurdles. She was inducted into the Cal State East Bay Sports Hall of Fame.
